Our namesake, The Duke of Clarence went on to become King William IV of England and during his short reign among many achievements championed the abolishment of slavery.
William was survived by 10 illegitimate children to his mistress, Dorothea Jordan an Irish actress and was eventually succeeded by his niece, Queen Victoria.
